Gotham Bat Conservancy: Gotham’s Real Superhero

Category:

Thanks to the help of some iconic superheroes, the bat has been a symbol of protection in New York City for decades. But now, the bats need our help. Currently, more than half of New York’s bat species are in severe decline or listed as endangered due to disease and habitat destruction. This year, Gotham Bat Conservancy was founded to help protect and conserve these incredible and essential animals. We would love you to join our mission.

Bats are important to a variety of ecological, social, and economic systems and provide essential pest control, seed dispersal, and pollination. Through our conservation programming, we’re working to have a worthwhile impact on our city and region’s bat populations. Gotham Bat Conservancy’s Bat Sanctuary Program consists of a collection of parks, community gardens, and other green spaces that serve both as habitat for bats and as an important resource for education. Our Citizen Science Project allows anyone with a smartphone to contribute directly to scientific research, helping to monitor changes to bat populations over time and track the impacts of our ongoing efforts. You can join the citizen science project, here.

Gotham Bat Conservancy is supported entirely by the generosity of our members; a one-time donation makes you a valued member of the conservancy, and our different donation tiers offer a variety of perks to show our appreciation. You can help protect the many species of bats, their habitats, and their future on our planet today by becoming a member of Gotham Bat Conservancy.
