BUSHWICK AND PROSPECT HEIGHTS — New York City will celebrate Earth Day’s 53rd birthday with New York City Department of Transportation in a huge Open Streets celebration, Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced. Open Streets: Car-Free Earth Day, an annual event hosted by NYC DOT to promote activism and education surrounding climate change, sustainability and more sustainable modes of transportation, is taking place this year on Saturday, April 22, and will include seven signature event locations and 23 community produced locations featuring programming that includes performances, fitness training, giveaways and educational activities. In Brooklyn Open Streets Partner, Bushwick Foundation for Artists and Merchants, offers one set of events.
Another community event is the Vanderbilt Avenue and Underhill Avenue Open Streets, according to Gib Veconi, chair of the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council.
